The Lord goes with you (Deuteronomy 31:6)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cBe strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Moses is giving the torch to Joshua at the end of Deuteronomy. Moses will not enter the promised land, and Joshua will lead the Israelites into the country that God has promised them. But getting that territory won\u2019t be simple, so Moses reminds them of how God has defeated their foes in the past\u2014and that He can be trusted to do so again.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Moses takes Joshua before the audience immediately after pronouncing the words of Deuteronomy 31:6 to Israel: \u201cBe strong and brave, because you must accompany these people into the land that the Lord promised to their forefathers and divide it among them as an inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will accompany you; he will never abandon you. Do not be terrified or disheartened\u201d 7b\u20138 (Deuteronomy 31:7b\u20138)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">This is a word of encouragement that we should remember. The Lord is trustworthy, and we can rely on Him to overcome any difficulties that stand in the way of His promises.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"2-the-lord-makes-your-steps-firm-psalm-3723-24\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>2. The Lord makes your steps firm (Psalm 37:23-24)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cThe Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Consider a world in which there are few flat surfaces. Roads are rutted and uneven, if they exist at all. Even the grandest palaces are made of rough-hewn stones. Walking without falling and stumbling is a gift in such a society. A steady foot may make or break a battle for a warrior like David.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">David employs solid steps as a metaphor for life security and stability in this line from Psalm 37. When we place our faith in the Lord, He assists us in walking upright and securely. Even if we fall, He will lift us.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"3-the-lord-is-with-me-i-will-not-be-afraid-psalm-1185-7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>3. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid (Psalm 118:5\u20137)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cWhen hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph at my enemies.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">In Psalm 118, the author claims, \u201cGive thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.\u201d (As said in Psalm 118:1) In verses 5\u20137, the writer focuses on their testimony. When they thought all the walls were closing in on them and they had enemies on every side, the Lord gave them space.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">This text provides a reminder of the importance of recalling moments when God has rescued us so that we can better prepare for future crises.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"4-be-strong-and-courageous-joshua-18-9\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>4. Be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:8-9)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cKeep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">The book of Joshua starts with Moses\u2019 death. The Lord then speaks to Joshua, encouraging and preparing him for what is coming. He stresses to Joshua the need to focus on the law if Israel is to remain devoted to Him.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">God later repeats Moses\u2019 words of encouragement to the new leader. Don\u2019t be intimidated or disheartened. Be brave because God is with you. We might all benefit from God\u2019s advice to immerse ourselves in His Word. And the awareness that we have nothing to fear while He is among us.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"5-he-will-make-your-paths-straight-proverbs-35-6\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>5. He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5\u20136)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cTrust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">When Jesus arrived in Galilee, He delivered the following message: \u201cThe moment has arrived. The Kingdom of God is approaching. Repent and accept the gospel!\u201d (Matthew 1:15) The term repents (metanoia) refers to a mental shift. This is also what the author of Proverbs is advocating.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">We are to trust God\u2019s methods and surrender our thinking to Him rather than relying on our knowledge. And when we do, the path ahead of us will no longer be crooked or twisting.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"6-they-will-soar-on-wings-like-eagles-isaiah-4029-31\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>6. They will soar on wings like eagles (Isaiah 40:29\u201331)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cHe gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">God had a plan for Abram when He summoned him out of Ur. He wanted a person who would be His own and benefit the entire world. Israel\u2019s road has been long and difficult since then. They weren\u2019t sure how long they could be a country because of the dire circumstances. But God\u2019s plan remained firm.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Our strength and power are limited. When it comes to endurance, even the young have limits. Isaiah, on the other hand, claims that God is our strength. He will provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cNo temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Sometimes we are lured and believe that this is a one-of-a-kind experience. This temptation might be something you have never experienced before. However, there is no temptation that is too strong for you to resist. Temptations lose their power when we recognize that we\u2019re all tempted and that there\u2019s always a way out.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"8-my-grace-is-sufficient-for-you-2-corinthians-129-10\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>8. My grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9\u201310)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">But he said to me, \u201cMy grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.\u201d Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ\u2019s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ\u2019s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">We don\u2019t know what ailment Paul had (2 Corinthians 12:7), but he prayed for God to remove it. Christ assured them that His ever-present grace is adequate and that His strength is most visible because of Paul\u2019s weakness, not despite it.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">We spend so much time and energy trying to avoid flaws, insults, and difficulties, whereas Paul relishes them. Why? Because when we\u2019re not relying on our talents, God\u2019s strength shines brightest.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"9-you-are-worth-more-than-many-sparrows-luke-126-7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>9. You are worth more than many sparrows (Luke 12:6\u20137)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cAren\u2019t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don\u2019t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">The word \u201csparrow\u201d is a more generic name for a variety of tiny birds seen in the Jerusalem area. These birds were a nuisance since they typically built their nests in inconvenient places. They were gathered and sold for a low price for roasting. But Jesus assures his audience that God remembers every one of these little birds.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">How much more treasured are we if God is familiar with these sparrows? According to Jesus, God is so familiar with us that He even knows how many hairs we have. The notion that God is intimately acquainted with each of us should encourage us to face our fears.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"10-do-not-be-anxious-about-anything-philippians-44-7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>10. Do not be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:4\u20137)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cRejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">What if your happiness were independent of your circumstances? Isn\u2019t it difficult to imagine? But that is precisely what Paul is urging us to do. We should constantly delight in the Lord. This allows us to let go of fear and stress and put our faith in God instead.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">We spend so much of our time tense, apprehensive, and upset when we are overly reliant on our ability to get out of unpleasant and challenging circumstances. We learn to trust God to assist, equip, and empower us when we teach ourselves to respond to situations with prayer and supplication. Peace was the consequence.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"11-cast-all-your-anxieties-on-god-1-peter-57\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>11. Cast all your anxieties on God (1 Peter 5:7)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cCast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Many biblical encouragements deal with human problems. Understandably, we\u2019re afraid of so many things. There isn\u2019t much in the world that makes you feel safe. But God appears to be working overtime to persuade us that we don\u2019t have to be fearful of others or events beyond our control when we trust Him. We are, once again, exhorted to cast all of our fears at God\u2019s feet. Why? Because he is concerned about us.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"12-the-spirit-god-gave-us-does-not-make-us-timid-2-timothy-17\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>12. The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid (2 Timothy 1:7)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cFor the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">We don\u2019t know how old Timothy was, but we \u200cknow he was young enough that Paul urged him not to be dismissed because of his youth (1 Timothy 4:12). Paul advises the young preacher not to be afraid in his second letter to him. He tells Timothy that the Spirit who lives within him gives him power and self-control.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">This is a variation of the injunction found throughout scripture: \u201cDo not be scared!\u201d Today, those who follow Jesus are indwelt by the same Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"13-i-can-do-all-this-through-him-who-gives-me-strength-philippians-412-13\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>13. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:12\u201313)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">\u201cI know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Paul\u2019s ministry was challenging. He was not only abused, but he was also frequently hungry, cold, and unprepared for life as an itinerant preacher (2 Corinthians 11:16\u201329). Despite this, he claims to have discovered the secret of contentment in the middle of his tribulations. That should make everyone\u2019s ears perk up.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Paul has discovered the secret: whether he has all he needs or nothing at all, Jesus is the one who empowers him. Paul is no longer dependent on perfect surroundings to make him happy.
