But we believe there\u2019s a lot more to it than that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why we interviewed Felipe, Soumya, and Mary, who is the Head of GRE Curriculum at Manhattan Prep. Read on to find out what they said about the exam requirements, registration procedure, and the overall test experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe  id=\"_ytid_77518\"  width=\"474\" height=\"267\"  data-origwidth=\"474\" data-origheight=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xk1ZxwPaqaU?enablejsapi=1&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&cc_lang_pref=&iv_load_policy=1&loop=0&modestbranding=0&rel=1&fs=1&playsinline=0&autohide=2&theme=dark&color=red&controls=1&\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since not much has changed since the exam was launched in 2020, you will find their experiences and insights valid even today.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"who-is-eligible-for-the-at-home-gre\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Who is Eligible for the at-home GRE?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the exception of Mainland China and Iran, the test is available in all the countries where the <\/span>GRE General Test<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is offered. As long as students meet certain equipment and environment requirements, they are eligible to give the exam.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"equipment-requirements\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Equipment Requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To start with, if you have a desktop or a laptop with Windows installed, you\u2019re good to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure you use Chrome or Firefox for browsing and install the ETS Test Browser on your system. This is the browser where the test will be taken.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI got pretty worried when I read that Windows was needed. I have a MacBook. But ETS helped me use Bootcamp to install Windows on my system, and I was good to go!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve set up the ETS Test Browser, you will have to add the ProctorU extension to your browser and run a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/test-it-out.proctoru.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow, noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ProctorU System Check<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You can also use your phone camera to show your room.<\/span><br \/>\n<i><\/i><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI used my phone camera to show them the front of my computer, around my room, and under and above my desk.There was a bookshelf behind me. But they didn\u2019t say anything about it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In case you start facing any difficulties while setting up your system, you can get in touch with a technician on the ProctorU System Check page. The technician can also do a final review to make sure you are ready to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"environment-requirements\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Environment Requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find a quiet room where nobody else will enter while you\u2019re giving the exam. Sit up on a standard chair (not on a couch or on your bed), and place your desktop &amp; keyboard on an otherwise empty desk.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI only had my laptop, its charger, a whiteboard, a marker, and my ID on the desk\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most importantly, after the test is over, you will be asked to erase all your notes in front of the proctor. So, make sure you have an 8\u2019\u2019 x 10\u2019\u2019 whiteboard or a paper with a transparent sheet protector, and an erasable marker.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI used an 11\u2019\u2019 x 12\u2019\u2019 whiteboard and a thin marker so I could read my own handwriting. It is certainly more convenient than raising your hand when you\u2019ve run out of paper at the test center.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of our students suggests you practice making notes on these materials for at least 15 days before the exam, so you can get used to writing on them.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cErasing from the whiteboard takes time; get used to that. Keep what you write on the board minimal and coherent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, the proctor will examine the front and the back of your writing material before you start the test. So, no cheating!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-do-i-register-for-the-at-home-gre\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How do I Register for the at-home GRE?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you have verified that your computer and your room meet the test requirements, you can create an account on the ETS website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ischoolconnect.com\/blog\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-gre\/\">procedure for GRE registration<\/a> is pretty simple:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to the \u201cMy GRE\u201d homepage, select \u201cRegister\u201d, and then \u201cFind Test Centers\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, select the option for \u201cTest at Home\u201d and make the standard payment of $205<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within a day, ProctorU will send you instructions to create an account along with a link<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use these to log in and select your test date and time<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you have scheduled your test, a countdown timer will appear on your dashboard<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile I had 30 minutes to go for the exam, the timer said I had 6 hours. This was because ProctorU uses your system time to set the countdown timer. So, make sure you set your system time according to your time zone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span>GRE registration<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> slots are available around the clock every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at least up until June 30th, 2020. You can get an appointment as early as 24 hours after you\u2019ve registered!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-to-expect-on-the-at-home-gre-test-day\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What to Expect on the at-home GRE test day?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The night before your exam, collect the necessary materials and prepare the room where you will be giving the test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While you\u2019re doing this, the <\/span>GRE test prep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/s\/cv\/gre\/at-home\/checklist\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">checklist<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed by ETS for at-home test-takers will come in handy. So, even before you talk to anyone, you\u2019re being recorded.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About 5 minutes after the appointment begins, the proctor will take you through <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a series of instructions, terms &amp; agreements, and face recognition protocols.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proctor will also do checks on your PC to see if any other software is running. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will take 10 to 15 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou never see the face of your proctor. That was a bit unexpected for me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After this, ProctorU will initiate a screen share and access your computer screen for monitoring purposes.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is when they will launch the ETS Test Browser, enter a password, and ask you to begin your test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help students feel comfortable with the process, ProctorU has come up with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/246007317\" rel=\"nofollow, noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pre-Exam Video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s enough to answer any queries you might have about the testing procedure, like how to respond to a connection issue, what you can and cannot have on your desk, and what your conversation with the proctor will be like.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-is-the-experience-of-gre-online-test-like\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What is the Experience of GRE Online test like?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ischoolconnect.com\/blog\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-gre\/\">GRE General Test<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the at-home GRE online test are not different from each other. I went to the washroom, ate, got back to my desk, and showed her my room again. I still had 3 minutes left, but she re-started the test without asking me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve also heard that some of the proctors don\u2019t allow the test-taker to leave the room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, one of our students was allowed to use her phone during her 10-minute break. Your testing experience, therefore, will majorly depend on your proctor.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe proctor can hear you talk, so try not to think out loud. But if you want to communicate with them, all you have to do is speak.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In case you face any issues talking to the examiner, you can open the ProctorU chat-box to get in touch with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-prepare-for-gre-at-home-test\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How to Prepare for GRE at Home Test?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Your strategy to <a href=\"https:\/\/ischoolconnect.com\/exams\/gre\/preparation-ideas\/\">prepare for GRE online test<\/a> doesn&#8217;t have to be any different than the General GRE test prep plan, since both the exams have the exact same pattern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Having said that, here are a few tips on how to prepare for GRE at home test:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>On day 1 itself, find the best way to remember difficult words and improve your vocab<\/li>\n<li>Learn the skills of educated guessing, skipping time-consuming questions, and working rigorously for 4 hour<\/li>\n<li>Take a mock test before you start your prep and every 2 weeks until the date of your exam<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t just practice questions over and over mindlessly without addressing any mistakes or strategies<\/li>\n<li>For study sources, refer to the official ETS test prep material first<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"should-i-take-the-at-home-gre-online-test-or-the-standard-gre-exam\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Should I Take the at-home GRE Online Test or the Standard GRE Exam?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though setting up everything by yourself seems like a task, ETS has come up with a very viable solution during these trying times.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was supposed to take my GRE at the test center. But because of the pandemic, my exam got rescheduled automatically for another date. To my relief, ETS came out with the at-home version of GRE, and helped me schedule the exam as per my preference.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, if you\u2019d already planned to give the GRE around this time and have been studying for it, you should consider giving the exam at home. Besides, we don\u2019t know if seats will be as easily available when the test centers do open.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDon\u2019t stress too much. With practice, patience, and belief, your exam will go well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the at-home GRE online test is not a great option for those who do not have a quiet room. Also, if you\u2019re lacking in terms of the technical equipment required, don\u2019t have a stable internet connection or erasable writing materials, you might want to wait it out.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"can-i-reschedule-or-cancel-my-at-home-gre-exam\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Can I Reschedule or Cancel my at-home GRE Exam?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using your ProctorU account, you can reschedule the test for free anytime prior to your appointment date and time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cancellation policy, however, requires you to cancel your exam at least 4 days in advance.
