Following are the differences between IELTS and TOEFL:

While TOEFL is ONLY computer-based, IELTS is both paper and computer-based. So if you’re more comfortable taking an exam on paper, you can choose IELTS. The speaking section for these two exams is so different. In IELTS, you have to appear for a personal interview. This isn’t the case in TOEFL, where you can speak to the computer during your online test itself. They take TOEFL in standard American English. So if you’ve grown up watching English movies and binge-watch sitcoms even today, TOEFL might be for you. The essay they expect you to write in the TOEFL writing section is lengthier. It also demands a fast typing speed. On the other hand, if you type slow but have legible handwriting, you can go for TOEFL.
In IELTS, you have to give short answers, which is not the case in TOEFL. TOEFL requires you to attempt MCQ-type questions. The reading passages in TOEFL are also used to inform rather than entertain. This means that if you like reading non-fiction, news, etc., you will find this exam easier to attempt.

You can get a band 8 in IELTS by working on your weaknesses and playing on your strengths. For this, take a mock test, figure out your strong and weak areas. Make a plan accordingly.
You can follow these tips to score well in IELTS:

Work on your vocabulary Don't make any assumptions For writing section part 1, Begin the first paragraph by paraphrasing the information given in the question.
Paragraph 2 should consist of the data you can gather from the graph, table, etc. Describe the information that is
relevant to the issue.
Conclude the task by stating your opinion as per the given diagram in the third paragraph. For writing Part 2, write an introduction, at least two paragraphs explaining the topic or the data, and a conclusion.

First things first, do thorough research on the IELTS exam pattern. IELTS has 4 sections:

Listening
Reading
Writing
Speaking
Nailing every section needs different strategies.
Begin by enhancing your reading abilities by reading articles, etc. For the speaking section, practice by
recording yourself while you speak on a topic. This will help you notice your mistakes. For the listening section, practice every type of question that comes in the IELTS
exam. It will make you familiar with the pattern. For writing, take timed practice tests, focus on expanding your language, lexical resource, etc.

For improving your score in the IELTS reading section, start by reading varied English texts. You can do this by reading articles, newsletters, etc.
Learn unknown words and how to spell them correctly.
While you're reading the passage, highlight important information, it will help you find the answers quickly.
Learn to divide your time for the 4 passages.

Follow some of these tips and notice what works best for you. Create a well-thought plan to ace your IELTS reading section.

Scan and skim the passage. You do not have to understand each word given in the passage. Scan the first para, get a general idea and then read further. Work on your vocabulary as it will help you understand the passage easily. Do not make any assumptions. Stick to the information given in the passage.

For the writing section, practice both the writing tasks daily. Set a timer and notice how much time you are taking to complete each section.

If you are taking longer than the time limit, see where you are going wrong. Practicing daily would help you complete your writing section in time.
Go through previous years' IELTS sections and practice those. It will help you get a gist of the kind of questions you can expect. Read a lot as it will help you frame ideas.
