In this program, students are encouraged to explore the culture through literature courses in translation. A broad range of courses attempts to introduce students to readings representative of classical and contemporary Arabic literature. Beyond an exploration of the political and social issues brought into relief in these texts, themes in these courses include an examination of the trope of the city, cross-cultural encounters, etc.

About

Asia is a centrally important part of world politics, economics, and culture. The Asian languages and literature program prepares students to interact with the people and cultures of Asia. As a student in this program, One will choose a designated sub-plan based on the language of concentration: Chinese, Hindi and Urdu, Japanese, Korean, or Hmong, and one will study methods of literary and cultural analysis.

About

The program emphasizes British and American literature and the English language. The creative writing program combines traditional studies with creative writing workshops at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Students will write poetry, plays, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The rhetoric and writing studies program combines traditional courses with focused studies in the news, feature, and professional writing.
