The degree is designed to give students the skills students will need for financial accounting, cost accounting, auditing, tax accounting and analysis. With expertise in these areas students can work in any accounting setting from finance to public service to marketing. The program focuses on the principles of financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and taxation. Possible entry-level jobs for this program include accounting clerk, accounts payable/receivable clerk, claims clerk, payroll clerk, credit clerk, bookkeeper, accounting intern, tax preparation, or comparable positions. This program may prepare students for certification in certified bookkeeper (cb), enrolled agent (ea), and certified payroll professional (cpp).

The program provides a unique opportunity for students to benefit from a strong liberal arts education while obtaining knowledge and skills in accounting, finance, economics, and business. By proper selection of accounting major and elective courses, students will be prepared to continue on with graduate study or to pursue a variety of careers in public accounting, law, the corporate world, or not-for-profit organizations.Courses focus on broad accounting concepts and issues but also develop the communication, technical, and interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in the professional world today. Students are encouraged to enhance their leadership skills, to develop high ethical standards, and to achieve their full potential throughout this program.

About

The program offers students the opportunity to study the culture and history of the United States from an interdisciplinary perspective. The four-course core requirement provides an introductory experience to influential ideas, events, and productions in the fields of literature, history, and political science, while the rest of the curriculum is self-designed, that is, the course work is chosen by majors themselves.The interdisciplinarity of American Studies encourages independence and innovation, while at the same time providing a structured background in the literature, history and political culture of the United States.
