Appication Process for this scholarship

  • LOR: Letter of Recommendation from one of their School Officials describing student’s leadership activity and future potential
  • Essay: Essay (500 words max) on the topic “What leadership means to me”
  • Evidence of English language proficiency
  • Official academic transcripts and any required translations
  • Financial Responsibility Form and Official Bank Statements
  • Before applying for this scholarship, the Applicant should first complete an online application for admission and receive UNM ID number (in 9 digit format)
  • Applicant needs his/her UNM ID number for the scholarship application
  • Copy of Essay and Letter of Recommendation with the subject “Leadership” should be mailed to geoscholarships@unm.edu
  • In the body of the email, Applicants are asked to include the following:
    • Full Name
    • UNM ID Number (in 9-digit format)
    • Recommender’s full name and his or her email address
  • This scholarship will not be combined with another UNM scholarship (such as the Amigo Scholarship)

Scholarship Eligibility

  • 3.0 GPA on a US scale in upper secondary/high school coursework
  • Admission to a full-time, undergraduate program (Online Programs are not eligible.)
  • Non-immigrant visa status (Preference is given to student visa holders- F1 or J1.)
  • No prior attendance at UNM in the current application degree level
