GMAT Exam 2022: Fees, Registration, Syllabus, Results & Scores

The Graduate Management Admission Council, the test administrator, determines the GMAT exam pattern.

The four segments of the GMAT Computer Adaptive Test are Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. The exam is meant to assess a variety of skills in applicants, including critical thinking, analytical thinking, verbal communication, and English language skills.

The GMAT exam pattern consists of both subjective and objective type questions It is a computer adaptive test with a total of 80 questions that must be solved within three hours and seven minutes. It is one of the most important tests for students who aspire to secure admission to the world’s most prestigious business schools.

GMAT exam uses English as the medium of instruction and has a scoring range of 200 to 800 points. On average, applicants receive a score between 400 and 500. For example, a score of 760+ on your exam is a 99 percentile. The fundamental structure, section-by-section time length, and score range may all be understood by looking at the points below.

• The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWS) (1 topic – 30 minutes): This portion assesses your critical thinking skills and your ability to articulate ideas.

• Integrated Reasoning (12 questions – 30 minutes): Data and information are offered in a variety of ways in this area. This portion evaluates your ability to analyze data and information.

• Quantitative Reasoning (31 questions – 62 minutes ): This portion is meant to assess your critical thinking ability. You must analyze and develop inferences from the data.

• Verbal Reasoning (36 questions – 65 minutes): This component is designed to assess your English language abilities. You will be required to read and comprehend passages as well as respond to questions. 

The GMAT exam pattern and syllabus are quite straightforward. It is a three-hour and seven-minute test with multiple-choice questions. A score of 690 or more is considered good

• The GMAT exam includes a time restriction for each portion, which varies depending on the section.

• You have the option of taking the GMAT Exam in one of three different order combinations.

• The questions in the Integrated Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning segments are computer-adaptive, which means they can't be skipped, the page can't be returned, and the answers can't be changed once they've been marked.

• Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning segment consist of MCQs. 

• The Analytical Writing segment consists of an essay question.

• Integrated Reasoning consists of non-MCQ questions. 

• The GMAT Exam does not have any negative markings.

• The test has two 8-minute optional breaks, the time of which must be specified while picking the sequence.

The pattern for the GMAT exam in 2021 has been updated, and the following are the changes:

1. The math section will consist only of reasoning problems.

2. The GMAT syllabus will include coordinate geometry.

3. For the MCQs, there will be additional alternatives of 'both-and 'neither.'

4. Conversion questions will be asked.

The GMAT's Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning parts are computer-adaptive, which means the test's complexity adjusts to your ability level in real-time. This feature enables the exam to analyze your potential with greater accuracy and provide scores that business schools can rely on.

The following is how it works: In either the Verbal or Quantitative portions, the first question will be of medium-level difficulty. As you answer each question, the computer scores it and utilizes it, together with your answers to any previous questions, to choose the next one. If you properly answer the first question, the computer will generally ask you a more difficult question. If you get the first question incorrect, the second one will be much easier. This procedure continues until you finish the part, at which point the computer will have an accurate assessment of your aptitude in that topic based on your replies to all previously completed questions.

You will not be allowed to skip questions, return to them, or amend your answers. This is because the machine selects the following question based on your responses to the previous ones.

• The GMAT exam has no set syllabus and is made up of questions that measure analytical and reasoning abilities.
• You have the option of taking the GMAT Exam in one of three different order combinations.
• The GMAT is a computer-adaptive Verbal and Integrated Reasoning test.
• The Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning segment consist of MCQs. 
• The Analytical Writing segment consists of an essay question.
• Integrated Reasoning consists of non-MCQ questions, such as TITA (Type in the Answer)
• The GMAT Exam does not have any negative markings.
• Between each exam, there are eight-minute optional breaks, the time of which must be chosen by you by selecting the sequence.

The GMAT test is 30 minutes shorter in the new format. This format was brought to effect on April 16, 2018. GMAC has decreased the GMAT's overall test duration from 4 to 3.5 hours. The Tutorial Screens, as well as the Quant and Verbal Section, have been updated to reflect the new structure (scored out of 800).

Q3. Is TOEFL necessary for GMAT?

Answer - Yes, aspirants who are appearing for the GRE and GMAT also need to appear for TOELF or IELTS tests to improve their proficiency in the English language. 

Q4. Is a passport required for an offline GMAT exam?

Answer - Yes, a passport is the only acceptable ID for the test centre version of the GMAT exam.

Q5. Do graduation marks matter in GMAT?

Answer - No, Graduation marks don’t matter on the GMAT.

Q6. Can you get MBA scholarships with high GMAT scores?

Answer - Yes, though scholarship committees don’t list a minimum GMAT score to guarantee a scholarship. However, high GMAT scores may increase your chances of getting a scholarship.
