In this program, students will acquire academic skills, marine safety training, sea experience, and hands-on training. students will be doing this by using facilities in the university rigging room and on the university training vessel. The university works hard to train students to be effective members of a ship's watch, both on deck and the bridge. the university's goal is to prepare students for the Transport Canada's Bridge Watchman exam. Completing the test successfully earns students a Bridge Watch Certificate, making students employable as a deckhand in the marine industry.

Eligibility Requirements:

Candidates for admission to the Technical Certificate - Bridge Watch Program must have completed, at a minimum, a High School diploma; a grade 11 Public Examination Matriculation Certificate; a Level III Adult Basic Education (ABE) Certificate; or other qualifications judged by the Marine Institute to be high school equivalent. Proof of physical fitness must be provided by way of a signed Seafarer’s medical. As well, candidates must submit a clear Certificate of Conduct (a certified criminal record check).
