Founded in 1868, the Technical University of Munich is one of the best universities in Europe. TUM is highly renowned for its research, teaching, and talent development. The university has a partnership with TU9, an integrated society of the most glorious German Institutes of Technology. In 2006 and 2012, the university was recognized as a “University of Excellence”. The Technical University of Munich operates on four campuses located in Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan, and Straubing. Munich's main campus spreads over three regional sites, including the Information Technology and Electrical Engineering departments, Business School, Medical Hospitals, and Architecture. TUM has around 48,000 students enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programs, out of which 14,000 are international students. The university has 13 academic divisions: Architecture, Informatics, Management, Chemistry, Civil, Physics, Geo and Environmental Engineering, Education, Math, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, and Computer Engineering, Medicine, Sport and Health Sciences, and Life sciences. Summer term at TUM begins on April 1st and officially ends on September 30th, and the winter term starts on October 1st and runs until the end of March.
