Founded in 1868, the Technical University of Munich is one of the best universities in Europe. TUM is highly renowned for its research, teaching, and talent development. The university has a partnership with TU9, an integrated society of the most glorious German Institutes of Technology. In 2006 and 2012, the university was recognized as a “University of Excellence”.

The Technical University of Munich operates on four campuses located in Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan, and Straubing. Munich's main campus spreads over three regional sites, including the Information Technology and Electrical Engineering departments, Business School, Medical Hospitals, and Architecture. 

TUM has around 48,000 students enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programs, out of which 14,000 are international students. The university has 13 academic divisions: Architecture, Informatics, Management, Chemistry, Civil, Physics, Geo and Environmental Engineering, Education, Math, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, and Computer Engineering, Medicine, Sport and Health Sciences, and Life sciences. The key research areas of the university include - Healthcare and Nutrition, Energy and Raw Materials, Environment and Climate, Information and Communication, Mobility, and Infrastructure.

The Technical University of Munich stands firm on its mission, stating - “We invest in talents. Recognition is our return.” It is recognized among the top-rated research-oriented universities in Germany. It has a strong alliance with over 150 companies and scientific institutions worldwide. 13 of the university’s professors or alumni have been made Nobel laureates since 1927, including Gerhard Ertl (Nobel Prize in Chemistry, 2007), Wolfgang Ketterle (Nobel Prize in Physics, 2001).

The Technical University of Munich does not have any specific requirements. There are a few points on which special emphasis is usually given for initial screening:

The reputation of your University/Institute.

Academic records.

International outlook in research and innovation.

For international students, there generally is an initial screening where your application is evaluated, roughly based on the above points, and marks are given. If you are shortlisted, you are called for a Skype interview. The Skype interview is to evaluate your technical know-how and your interests. They essentially determine if you will be able to fit in effectively with the TUM course format.
