Founded in 1832 by King William IV, Durham University is a public research university located in the United Kingdom. It is a part of the prestigious Russell Group of British Research Universities. Durham University is bestowed with the Queen's Anniversary Prize and is awarded the Teaching Excellence Framework Gold Status for its academic excellence and outstanding learning and outcomes for students.  

Durham University is spread across two campuses on around 227 hectares of land. The main campus is located in Durham, where most of its academic schools are located. The university has an extraordinary Employability and Careers team ranked in the top 40 universities globally for Employer Reputations. 

Durham University attracts over 13000 students from all walks of life. Around 15% of its student population are of non-UK origin, coming from more than 150 nations worldwide. It welcomes applications in September and January, with an acceptance rate of  41%. 

The university comprises three significant faculties - Arts and Humanities, Science and Social Science, and Health. It offers a spectrum of over 200 undergraduate and 130 postgraduate programs through its 16 colleges with 25 departments. Some of the top-rated programs include - Business, Chemical Engineering, Computer Programming, Medical Engineering, Physiotherapy, Animation, Biomedical Engineering, and Biotechnology. Durham University ranks among the top 10 universities in the world for Theology, divinity and religious studies, Archaeology and Geography. 

Durham University offers several sports, arts, social science, and welfare activities, helping students develop essential skills, such as team management, communication, problem-solving, and leadership. The Durham University alumni community is known as Dunelm and includes  Andrew Strauss (England cricketer), Tim Smit (Founder of the Eden Project), and  Sir Harold Evans (Journalist).
