The University of Southampton is a renowned public research university located in Southampton, United Kingdom. Founded in 1856 as part of King's College London, the university was commissioned as an independent educational institution on April 22, 1965, under Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as recommended by Prime Minister Harold Wilson. The University of Southampton was granted a royal charter by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 in one of her first official acts as monarch. It is also one of the founding members of the elite Russell Group of research universities. 


The University of Southampton operates on seven vibrant campuses, five of which are in Southampton, and the other campuses are located in Malaysia and Winchester, respectively. The university is fueled by innovative thinking and pioneering research activities that impact society and has partnerships with various other universities and industrial giants. Its main campus is in Highfields.
