About
The program examines the experiences and contributions of people of the African diaspora in the United States and globally. By studying African Americans’ intellectual, historical, cultural, economic, political, religious, literary, scientific, and social ideas, institutions, movements, and practices, the program provides the tools to theorize solutions to social issues rooted in longstanding and persistent racial divides. In this course, students will deeply and substantively examine Black culture, history, and experience throughout the Americas, study African culture, history, people, and politics as pretext and context to Africans in the Americas experience, and explore the Black Atlantic diaspora to satisfy the major’s requirements.
