Situated in New Jersey, USA, Rutgers University has five campuses. It was established in 1766 and is known for its oceanographic research facilities at the New Jersey shore. It is a public research university and is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance and the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). The Busch campus is home to Rutgers' high-tech and health schools, research centres, and SHI Stadium. Historical and architectural marvels abound on College Avenue, dating back to the American Revolution. The Douglass Residential campus is home to the Global Village living-learning communities. Moreover, the Rutgers Business School building in Livingston has a first-run movie theatre, the Jersey Mike's Arena, and a 32-acre solar array providing 60% of campus power.

Rutgers University has 36,039 undergraduate students and 14,215 professional and graduate students. It offers a faculty of 6,000+ staff in about 29 schools and colleges and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. 

Rutgers University has produced many notable alumni, including Nobel prize winner— Milton Friedman in economics and Selman A. Waksman in Medicine, poet Robert Pinsky, who was appointed the nation's poet laureate and novelist Junot Díaz the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2008.
