Applicants from non-Canadian universities where English is not the primary language of teaching must submit scores for an English language competence assessment with their scholarship application. Note that you should take the test within the past 24 months at the time of application submission.

For these tests, you will be recommended to focus on learning to talk, listen, read, and write in English, as this will best prepare you to communicate in all sorts of scenarios.

Individual graduate programs may demand excellent English language proficiency scores and minimum scores on any of the examinations' components.

For more updates and deadlines, you should look up the official website of these exams.

Table of Contents

1 TOEFL

You can take either the TOEFL online or the paper-based test. Once you receive the results, you must apply to and be admitted to a university of your choice within two years, after which the score will expire. TOEFL is often preferred over PDT in Canada.

TOEFL and IELTS test takers can request that their scores be sent to colleges electronically. An authentic paper test score record is necessary for all other tests. Photocopies of test results may or may not be accepted according to university protocols.

2 IELTS

Most institutions in Canada require the GMAT in addition to an IELTS exam for students pursuing an MBA. However, just a few universities accept admission wholly based on your IELTS score.

You must have a minimum overall IELTS band score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in each component of the academic IELTS exam.

Individual graduate programs may have higher English language competence requirements and minimum scores on individual exam components.

You must indicate which universities you want the results delivered to on the IELTS application form.

3 PTE

PTE is increasingly gaining acceptance in Canada. Thus it may not be approved by all colleges. You should consult the university where you wish to apply before taking the test. Furthermore, you are excused from the test if you have completed at least three years of school at any academic institution where English is the official language.

Individual graduate programs may need higher levels of English competence.

4 CAEL

The CAEL exam can be taken at test centers in the following countries Canada, USA, India, UAE, the Philippines, or China. This test assesses your command of the English language in four areas: reading, listening, writing, and speaking.

It requires you to read articles, listen to a lecture, respond to questions, and write a brief essay. Your performance will be graded on a scale of 10 to 90.

5 GRE

Most Canadian colleges do not need the GRE. However, a GRE score might help your application stand out. GRE Canada examinations are divided into General Tests and Subject Tests. The General Test is typically utilized for business and management degrees, although Subject Tests are available in subjects such as Mathematics, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, and Physics.

6 GMAT

GMAT is an exam that is only available to students enrolled in management and business degrees. Many MBA schools need a GMAT score when applying because the best business schools in Canada usually have pretty rigorous criteria.
