Scholarship Overview

RIFOS scholarships are funded by the Australian Government and RRITFS scholarships are funded by RMIT University. When students apply for a research scholarship through one of the University’s rounds, they will automatically be considered for all the scholarships for which they are eligible.

Scholarship amount details

  • RIFOS scholarship provides tuition fees for a period of 3 years, with the possibility of a 6-month extension
  • The cost of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your visa is also provided
  • If students are awarded a tuition fee scholarship, then the scholarship will be partnered with a stipend scholarship which will provide students with a living allowance

    • They are applying for or undertaking a Masters by Research and already hold a Research Doctorate, Research Masters, or an equivalent research qualification
    • They are applying for or undertaking a Research Doctorate and already hold a Research Doctorate or an equivalent research qualification
    • They have previously held a Commonwealth-funded postgraduate research scholarship unless it was terminated within six months of the scholarship commencement date

Applicants will be considered ineligible for a tuition fee scholarship if:

    • They are applying for or undertaking a Masters by Research and you already hold a Research Doctorate, Research Masters, or an equivalent research qualification
    • They are applying for or undertaking a Research Doctorate and you already hold a Research Doctorate or an equivalent research qualification
    • They have previously held a Commonwealth-funded postgraduate research scholarship unless it was terminated within six months of the scholarship commencement date

 

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Scholarship Selection Criteria:
    • Awarded based on a competitive selection process
    • Ranking according to academic achievement, research outputs, and professional experience
  • Priority Given to Applicants Who:
    • Achieved a high distinction (80% or higher) in the final two years of qualifying program(s)
    • Demonstrate an equivalent level of academic attainment, considering previous study, work experience, publications, and research experience
    • Can commit to a minimum 12-month duration on a full-time basis (or part-time equivalent)
    • Have not completed a graduate research program at the same or higher course level
    • Have not previously held an RMIT or Commonwealth-funded postgraduate research scholarship, unless terminated within six months of the scholarship’s payments commencing
    • Enroll and primarily base at an RMIT Australian campus
  • English Language Requirements:
    • TOEFL: Reading (13), Listening (12), Speaking (18), Writing (21)
    • IELTS: No band less than 60
    • PTE: No communication band less than 50
