The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships (Electrical & Biomedical) is offered by University of Calgary. This Merit Based scholarship will be given one time.   • This competition is managed through the Graduate Award Competition (GAC). The Graduate Award Competition opens November 1 of each year.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • All students enrolled in a thesis-based graduate degree program
  • Eligibility for MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering:
    • A four-year bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering
    • A minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study (a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents or 60 units) of the undergraduate degree
    • Applicants who choose Software Engineering as a specialization must have a four-year bachelor’s degree in software engineering or equivalent. In addition, at least one year of experience in software development and Background knowledge in C or C++
  • Eligibility for MS in Biomedical Engineering:
    • A four-year baccalaureate degree in engineering, science, kinesiology or equivalent, from a recognized institution
    • A minimum of 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study (a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents or 60 units) of the undergraduate degree
  • English language requirement:
    • TOEFL – overall score of 86, with no section less than 20
    • IELTS – overall score of 6.5, with no section less than 6.0
  • A Graduate Program Director may exempt an applicant whose first language is not English from the ELP requirement if they meet the following criteria:
    • The student has completed one of the following degrees in an institution where the sole language of instruction and examination is English:
      • a Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of 3 years in length), or
      • a Graduate Degree
  • Eligible institutions must be listed as providing English language instruction in the World Higher Education Database (WHED)
