Scholarship Overview

Montserrat addresses financial needs through a combination of Montserrat scholarships, federal grants and loans, and state and private grants and scholarships. Montserrat is proud to present this scholarship for up to three students on an annual basis. A longstanding Board of Trustee member, Bill Wasserman is dedicated to providing opportunities for underserved students while enhancing the creative culture of Montserrat’s student body.

Appication Process for this scholarship

  • Two letters of recommendation are required
  • College essay of 300 to 500 words in length, or (preferably) an essay that describes who you are as an artist and why Montserrat would be a good fit for you
  • Official high school (secondary school) translated transcript(s)
  • Proof of financial support
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency
  • All documents submitted to Montserrat must be in English; therefore, official translations are required
  • Portfolio featuring 12 to 15 pieces of recent and strongest artwork, with a minimum of three drawings or paintings from direct observationObservational drawing is drawing from life
  • Examples would include sketching a bowl of fruit (still life), drawing from a model (figurative), or drawing a street scene (landscape)The image is not taken from either a photograph or the artist’s imagination but from real-life observation
