Established in 1754, Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university and has an academic community of over 40,000 students. Columbia University is organized into twenty schools, including 16 graduate and four undergraduate schools. The second facility–Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory–is located on a high, forested bluff in the Palisades overseeing the Hudson River.
