Established in 1972, George Mason University is a glorious public research institution in the United States. The university is named after George Mason, who drafted the Virginia declaration of rights, contributing to the US Constitution's Bill of Rights. The university functions with the motto ‘Freedom and Learning.’ GMU has come a long way from a small satellite campus of the University of Virginia to one of the most influential and prominent public research universities. The university is functional on three campuses in Virginia and the fourth one in South Korea. The primary campus is located in Fairfax, Virginia. GMU is accredited by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC). It is globally recognized for its innovation, diversity, entrepreneurship, and commitment to accessibility. It emphasizes vital, in-demand areas like Engineering, Foreign Relations, and Cybersecurity. George Mason University is considered one of the top research universities in the country, the university holds an R1 designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Most of the research conducted at the university is connected in some way or another with sustainability. GMU serves 76 undergraduate majors, and it was the first university in the country to introduce doctoral courses in Information Technology, Bioinformatics, Conflict Resolution, and Computational Social Science. George Mason University offers a broad spectrum of courses, including Information Technology, Psychology, Management Sciences and Quantitative Methods, Computer and Information Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities, Biology, Business Administration and Management, Accounting, and Finance. The university campus has more than 50 residence halls, ranging from suites to apartments. Around 75% of all freshmen live on campus, and the students get to experience the university lifestyle firsthand. GMU organizes career fairs with over 300 top employers and offers OPT workshops and robust professional networks to bridge the gap between students and the industry. It prepares students for a significant and rewarding career in the global society. The first Muslim woman in space, Anousheh Ansari, is a notable alumnus of this coveted university.
