The major will initially cover fundamental concepts in biology, such as life, the structure, and function of molecules, cells, and organisms, and processes including metabolism and respiration. Biology is the study of living organisms, whether single-celled or multi-cellular, as individuals or in groups, and their interaction with their environment and with each other. The program provides students with a broad base for understanding principles governing life processes at all levels–molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological. An evolutionary perspective guides all areas of the curriculum–development, behavior, physiology, genetics, and more. Students will use an integrative approach that spans from molecular to ecosystem levels to understand the broader context of biological systems.

About

Biomedical engineers combine mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine to help solve medical and scientific health problems.They are involved in medical device design fabrication and testing, prosthesis fabrication, ergonomics and human factors, physiological function monitoring, home health care technology development, biomedical informatics, and functional imaging and tomography.They also conduct research in biomaterial development and biocompatibility, artificial tissue and organ fabrication, cell- and biomolecule-based sensors and therapeutics, gene therapy development, and biomedical microsystems. The program study how microscopic machines facilitate the movement of cargo like proteins, neurotransmitters, or hormones around a cell.
