Worcester Polytechnic Institute is a private research university in Worcester, Massachusetts. The school was founded in 1865 and offered undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees across multiple fields. The institute is set up on a 95-acre, vibrant campus in Boynton Hill, which houses academic buildings, residences, parking spaces, and student support services. Worcester Polytechnic Institute has been ranked among the top universities for engineering degrees in the United States. It also became the first school to offer an integrated physics degree during the early 20th century. The institute uses the WPI Plan, which has been running since 1970. Worcester Polytechnic Institute offers numerous educational programs in Engineering, Arts and Humanities, Business, Science, Technology, and Social Sciences. It provides a flexible learning environment with many certificate courses and online programs. WPI is home to more than 6,500 students and accepts new applications with a 59% acceptance rate. WPI has academic accreditations from the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts, the Association of Independent Technological Universities, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The institute has a retention rate of 97%, which is among the highest in the United States.
