Scholarship Overview

The FWSF Scholarship Fund provides graduate and undergraduate scholarships to San Francisco Bay Area women pursuing careers in the fields of accounting, finance and/or the financial services industry. Since 1985, our Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $3 million in scholarship grants to Bay Area women.

Appication Process for this scholarship

  • LOR- Two letters of recommendation must be sent directly from the writer:
    • One from a professor or advisor familiar with your work; and
    • One from a client or employer
  • Essay- An essay of no more than 750 words addressing the following:
    • The area of business you expect to study and your reason for choosing this field;
    • How your business education fits your life/career goals;
    • How your goals and FWSF goals align including how the FWSF’s mission of supporting women with careers in finance will help you achieve those goals; and
    • Why you believe you deserve this scholarship
  • CV-
    • summarizing past and present employment
    • extracurricular activities and honors or other recognition received as an undergraduate or graduate student
    • Include descriptions of your leadership skills and memberships in organizations, both professional and social
    • Please include special activities, sports, committees and community activities in which you have participated
    • Please be specific in describing your roles and accomplishments
  • A complete unofficial transcript from your current and any prior university or college,
  • A current photo

Application process:

  • First Interview:
    • Personal interviews are required as part of the selection process
    • Provided that complete application documents are received by the deadline
    • This interview will take place at a location convenient to your college or university or remotely
  • Second Interview:
    • Following the first round of interviews, candidates will be rated, and the highest-rated candidates will be invited for a second interview in San Francisco (unless otherwise communicated)
    • All finalist candidates must attend the second interview in person unless FWSF decides to conduct the interviews remotely for unforeseeable reasons

Students will be auto-considered for this scholarship when they apply for the courses on which this scholarship is applicable.

Additional Information:

  • Recipients are required to attend a luncheon in their honor in June of the current year and are strongly encouraged to attend the Financial Woman of the Year luncheon in September of the same year
  • Apart from monetary amount student will also get:
  • Associate-Level FWSF Membership
  • Enrollment in the FWSF Mentorship Program
  • Professional Headshot

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Undergraduate scholarships are awarded to women who will be juniors or seniors in the Fall semester of the current year
  • Be enrolled either at:
    • The main physical campus of a Bay Area accredited college or university; or?
    • If not attending the main campus of your school, be enrolled and attending a school satellite campus located within 1 of the 9 Bay Area counties and taking at least eighty percent (80%) of classes at a satellite campus
  • Follow a course of study to attain a degree and pursue a career in finance or in the financial services industry
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 30 or equivalent
  • Preference will be given to following candidates:
    • Demonstrated leadership skills, both academic and community
    • Strong communication skills
    • Willingness to participate in FWSF community
    • Alignment with Financial Women of San Francisco goals
    • Financial need
