Scholarship amount details

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship covers:

  • tuition fees
  • maintenance/living cost stipend (£1,116 per calendar month, 2020/21 figures)
  • return flights
  • thesis grant
  • study travel grant (if applicable)
  • a one-off arrival allowance (£433, 2020/21 figures)

Additional Information: Applicants will be required to sign an undertaking that they:

are a national of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not at present, living or studying in a developed country;.

have not undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country;.

are themselves (or their family), unable to pay to study in the UK;.

will return to their home country as soon as the award ends.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a commonwealth country citizen, refugee, or British protected person
  • Applicants are expected to hold an upper second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in engineering or science
  • Applicants must meet the English language requirements to meet UKBA Tier 4 visa regulations:
    • IELTS – Overall 65, with a minimum 60 in all bands
    • PTE – Overall score of 67, with no skill below 60
  • Applicants must not presently be living or studying in a developed country or must not have previously studied in a developed country than his/her home country

Special Restrictions: Must return to home country after course completion. Candidates are required to return to their home country.
