Scholarship Overview

The NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. Part of the scholarships are meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to study in Holland. The EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The scholarship consists of a one-time payment of 5,000 euro in the first year of the Master’s program.

Appication Process for this scholarship

  • All international students from non-EEA countries applying to a TU/e Master’s program before February 1 will be included in the selection procedure for the NL Scholarships
  • It is not possible to apply separately for this scholarship at TU/e
  • Scholarships are also only available to students studying for a Master’s degree at TU/e

Scholarship Eligibility

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) is required with a CGPA of at least 8.5 on a 1-10 scale or a score of 75%
  • Subjects required for specialization Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science (MSMC):
    • Mathematics:
      • Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Statistics
    • Physics:
      • Conservation laws of classical mechanics, fluid and thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion, electric and magnetic fields, Maxwell’s equations
    • Physical Chemistry:
      • Chemical bonding including quantum chemical description, spectroscopy, thermodynamics, kinetics, phase equilibria, and chemical equilibria in one and multi-component systems
    • Molecular Chemistry:
      • Organic and Inorganic chemistry
    • Materials Science:
      • Knowledge of the various classes of materials (Metals, Ceramics, Polymers, Composite materials), and the relationship between structures and features, on the molecular level as well as on mesoscopic level
      • Knowledge of the relationship between processing and mesoscopic structure and thus the properties of materials
    • Lab Experience:
      • Formal training in laboratory techniques including organic chemistry
      • Academic training including a research project
  • Subjects required for specialization Chemical and Process Technology (CPT):
    • Mathematics:
      • Trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions, first and second-order differential equations, dot products and cross products, complex numbers, functions of more than one variable, double and triple integrals, vector fields along curves and through surfaces, linear algebra, matrices, systems of linear differential equations, numerical methods (basics), engineering statistics

      • Conservation laws of classical fluid and solid mechanics, thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion, electric and magnetic fields, Maxwell’s equations
    • Physical Chemistry:
      • Chemical bonding including quantum chemical description, spectroscopy, thermodynamics, kinetics, phase equilibria, and chemical equilibria in one and multi-component systems
    • Process Engineering:
      • Transport mechanisms (and their rates) for mass, momentum, and energy and corresponding laws of conservation, basic principles of the most important industrial separation technologies and application thereof to determine and design appropriate separation equipment, heterogeneous catalysis, ideal and non?ideal reactors, including non?isothermal reactors, fixed?bed reactors for heterogeneous catalyzed reactions, gas?liquid and gas-liquid-solid reactors, process modeling
    • Lab Experience:
      • Formal training in laboratory techniques including chemical synthesis and chemical analysis, hands-on laboratory sessions on physical transport phenomena, flow measurements
      • Academic training including the research project
  • Must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement with one of the following tests:
    • TOEFL: Minimum total score of 90 with at least 21 in each section
    • IELTS: Minimum score 6.5 with at least 6 for each individual test component
  • Applicant:
    • Must be of non-EEA nationality
    • Must be applying for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s program at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions
    • Must not have a degree from an educational institution in the Netherlands
