Appication Process for this scholarship

  • Register for one of the participating master programmes at UM. For details, visit your prospective programme’s webpage.
  • Submit your application via Studielink to receive a UM student ID number required for the scholarship application.
  • Ensure your chosen master programme is eligible for the UM NL-High Potential Scholarship.
  • Meet all admission requirements, except legal residence, before the scholarship deadline. Admission deadlines may differ from scholarship deadlines.
  • If a handling fee is required by your programme, it must be paid by 1 February 2025. This fee is not covered by the UM International Services Desk.
  • Provide an official document from your home university showing your most recent GPA (minimum 7.5 out of 10 or equivalent) and a document explaining your grade system.
  • Log in with your UM account and complete the scholarship application form online. Submit all documents in .doc, .docx, or PDF format.
  • Include the following documents in your application:
    • Curriculum vitae (maximum two A4 pages, up-to-date, including awards or prizes).
    • Letter of motivation using the required template.
    • Proof of academic excellence, including university transcript and grade system explanation.
    • Personal statement of financial needs, describing personal circumstances such as financial difficulties or other challenges.
    • Reference letter from a professor, lecturer, or employer, dated no earlier than February 2024. Referees must follow the scholarship reference letter guidelines.
    • Contact details of one referee, including their relationship to you, work telephone number, and institutional email address.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • You hold a nationality in a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands. Refer to the visa application website to confirm the country for collecting your MVV visa. If you have a residence permit for another Schengen country, it must be valid until at least 2 September 2025.
  • You do not have dual nationality from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland.
  • You have applied for admission to a participating full-time master programme at Maastricht University for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • You meet the specific admission requirements of the UM master programme to which you have applied.
  • You have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands. However, participation in exchange programmes in the Netherlands is acceptable.
  • You are not older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2025.
  • You have obtained excellent results during prior education programmes, demonstrated by a grade transcript showing a GPA of 7.5 out of 10 or higher.
  • You can only submit an application once. Ensure all documents meet the requirements before submission, as no additions or replacements are allowed after submission.
