Scholarship Overview

UCC Sport provides sports scholarships to talented dual career athletes to support them to progress in their studies and education. The UCC Sport Scholarship programme aims to support athletes achieve their full potential and is divided into two main strands UCC Team Sport Scholarships and UCC Individual Sport Scholarship.

Appication Process for this scholarship

To apply for a UCC Sports Scholarship applicants must:

  • Be either a full-time registered UCC student or applicant for a program at University College Cork in 2022/23 (Note: applicants also need to make their degree program application separately, eg through the CAO or through the International Office for Non-EU applicants)
  • Read the UCC Sports Scholarship Terms and Conditions
  • Complete the UCC Sport Scholarship Application Form online using the relevant ‘Apply here’ option

Additional Information:

  • There are 2 main types of Scholarship (note an applicant may only apply for 1 type of scholarship):
  • UCC Sport Individual Scholarship
  • The UCC Individual Sport Scholarships are divided into Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards. Awards and services for each level of scholarship will be determined by the DSPA. The Individual Sport Scholarship is open to applicants involved in team sports or individual sports other than the core sports
  • UCC Core Team Sport Scholarship
  • The UCC Core Team Sport Scholarships covers the following sports each which will have their own specific criteria: GAA, Hockey, Rugby and Soccer. GAA includes: Camogie, Gaelic Football, Hurling and Ladies Gaelic Football
  • There are a number of sponsored scholarships which will be administered as part of the programme both for Individual and Core Team Sports

Scholarship Eligibility

General criteria:

  • All applicants must satisfy the normal entry requirement of the University and have been offered a place on a degree or postgraduate course at the university Applicants should apply for such course through the CAO in the normal way Existing students are also eligible to apply
  • Applicants must be pursuing a full time university course
  • Applicants must demonstrate outstanding ability in their chosen sport and demonstrate an ability to compete at National or International level (inter county level for GAA Applicants)
  • The sport has to be recognised by Sport Ireland

Special Restrictions: No specific eligibility requirement mentioned on the Scholarship site. Student profile will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
