Scholarship Overview

Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme are offered at The University of Sydney to those international students who are pursuing a Masters Degree. This is a Merit Based Scholarship, which is provided to only maximum number of students, depending on the University student. Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme are valued at AUD 20000 for maximum number of students, depending on the University student who qualify from The University of Sydney. Also, the Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme is a one time tuition reducing scholarship, offered in the first year of Masters Degree only. Applications for Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme at The University of Sydney are filed separately. To be eligible for the award, applicants must have completed their Bachelor degree and passed the 12th grade. To be eligible for this award, international students must take English proficiency tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, PTE. Along with the Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme application. The eligibility of the students to qualify for Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships Scheme would solely depend on the applicant’s admission to The University of Sydney Masters Degree, his/her aptitude for an overall contribution towards The University of Sydney community and of course the academic achievements.

Tier 2 Scholarships capped at AUD$20,000 towards a recipient’s first-year tuition fees.
The amount of $20,000 will be paid for one year in two equal instalments.

  • All eligible applicants with an unconditional offer by a specified cut-off date will be considered for the scholarships

The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

  • withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
  • becomes a domestic student,
  • commences part-time study without prior approval,
  • does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
  • is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, has accepted another scholarship administered by the University of Sydney (funded by the University or by a third party), of a value at or exceeding A$10,000 per annum,
  • does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
  • any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Applicants must have either of the following:
    • The equivalent of a Bachelor of Engineering degree in the relevant discipline with a credit average (65 per cent)
    • The equivalent of a Bachelor of Engineering degree in the relevant discipline and five years relevant professional work experience
  • Must be an international student
  • Must have applied for but not yet commenced a bachelor’s degree or a coursework master’s degree that is a CRICOS registered award program usually delivered onshore at the University of Sydney
  • Must receive an unconditional offer of admission by the relevant close date
  • Must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement by submitting one of the following tests:
    • IELTS – Overall score of 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 in each band
    • TOEFL – Overall score of 85, with a minimum of 17 in reading, listening, and speaking and 19 in writing
    • PTE – Overall score of 61
  • Must be enrolled for CRICOS registered program of study at the University in any postgraduate coursework degree program
  • To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the student must maintain a minimum semester average mark of 65 and have no outstanding tuition fees
  • Must be willing to promote the program in which they are enrolled as well as represent the University of Sydney at student orientation, marketing events, and corporate networking events
  • Preference will be given to the following candidates:
    • The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit as assessed from a student’s application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree
    • The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of two nominees of the Executive Director, Sydney Future Students and one nominee of the Admissions Office
