History and Settings of Bowling Green State University

BGSU traces its roots back to the Bowling Green State Normal School, which was founded in 1910 to train teachers for Ohio’s public schools. Over the years, the institution evolved and grew, and in 1935, it became a full-fledged college, Bowling Green State College became Bowling Green State University in 1963 when it achieved university status.
