High School Experience
Temple is a fairly competitive school, with students applying from all over the world. That being said, your highschool experience is important! They are looking for students who are serious about their academic careers. Temple looks for students who have a B average in their high school classes and a 3.0 in their college prep courses. If you are a student who participated in the advanced placement program and received a high enough score, Temple will award college credits. They also look for students who have a well academic background, with the below course distribution:
Standardized Test Scores
Temple University recommends but does not require Standardized Test Scores. Standardized test scores give universities another indication of your overall academic accomplishments. Temple accepts both the SAT and ACT. It is often suggested that students take either standardized tests in the spring of your junior year of highschool, as well as the fall of their senior year. I personally took the SAT twice and received a higher score the second time around. You will feel more confident if you take an exam more than twice. Many times, the first time taking an exam students can be nervous and not know what to expect. So it is recommended to take a standardized test more than one time.
The Temple Option
Temple University offers something called “The Temple Option” to students whose potential is not accurately represented by standardized test scores. First-year candidates may better demonstrate their academic strengths and potential to succeed in college. That being said, if you choose this option while applying, Temple will not consider your test scores during their admission review. However, home schooled applicants, recruited athletes, and international students may not select The Temple Option. These students have to submit their scores. All applicable students have the option of submitting their standardized test scores, ACT or SAT, or choose The Temple Option.
Statement of Purpose
Your Statement of Purpose(SOP) or the application essay, is a key part of your application. This essay will give universities something to look at beyond your grades and test scores. It gives you the opportunity to stand out from other applicants. Like most other universities, Temple also places a lot of weight on the state of your SOP. Therefore, this essay may help Temple determine whether you are an academically qualified student or not. A captivating essay could make the difference when choosing you or another applicant during the process.
Extracurricular Activities
What do you do outside of the classroom? Temple University is interested in your outside interests. Why? This helps paint a full picture of yourself and it may even help your review process. They seek students with great extracurricular accomplishments in addition to their strong academic performance. Some examples of extracurricular activities that help students stand out from other applicants can include leadership positions, community service, or being a part of an athletics team. Students who participate in extracurricular activities stand out from students and are an important part of an application because it is able to show your interests.
Letter of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation are optional for your Temple Admission. If you choose to send them they will be reviewed. Temple asks for students to send no more than 2 letters of recommendation. College admissions are getting more and more competitive as the years go by. That being said, be sure to have a good relationship with your teachers and counselors. A letter of recommendation from your boss can also be beneficial because they can speak on your work ethic. Letters of recommendation are given great consideration during the admission process, it can help you get accepted or (rejected).
