Student community

Reed College is a place where everyone, regardless of identity, is welcome to engage in serious and open intellectual enquiry. Everyone can join student organizations with a variety of interests, including a fire-spinning troupe, a literary magazine, a society that celebrates the sky, a feminist student union, an aerial acrobatics club, regular cheese-lovers get-togethers, a radio station, and more.

Campus

The distance between Reed and downtown Portland is only ten minutes. Students frequently travel there on foot, by bus, by bicycle, or by car to enjoy all that the city has to offer. Portland offers a thriving food scene, landscaped gardens, forested parks, and the biggest independently-owned bookstore in the world.

The 116 acres of land that makeup Reed College include Reed Canyon, a lush wetland. At Reed College, there are currently 21 academic and administrative buildings and 18 residence halls. The best thing about Reed is that it gives its students a lot of opportunities both inside and outside the four walls of a classroom, including student groups formed based on their social, political, and religious interests. The most well-known student organizations at Reed College are probably Reeds Bike Co-op, Association of Reed Gamers, and Weapons of Mass Distraction. 

Residential life

Reed University offers multiyear and mixed-gender residence halls, a number of language houses, and a number of these student communities. In these halls, an international Fulbright Scholar resides with students in the Arabic Culture House, the outdoor enthusiasts flock to the Outhaüs, and one can walk into Tír na nÓg, where dragons, science fiction, and a welcoming community of like-minded people welcome you home. The kitchen serves as the center of the two co-ops.
