Founded in 1857, The University of Windsor (UWindsor) is a public research institute in Ontario, Canada. The university is an internationally oriented institution with a team of award-winning faculty and creative staff. The university, located in Canada’s southernmost city, enjoys spectacular weather and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013. A total of 17 athletic teams from the institute compete in national and provincial championships. The student-to-faculty ratio is 26:1, and there are 145,000 alumni worldwide. In September 2015, the University of Windsor began classes at the first phase of its downtown campus in Windsor’s core, ushering in a new era. The century-old Windsor Armouries houses the second phase of the downtown campus and includes the School of Creative Arts, as well as the Alan Wildeman Center for Creative Arts.

The University of Windsor | Fees structure

Tuition and ancillary fees represent students’ contribution to the costs of services and resources that aid in the completion of their studies. Fees may differ depending on the courses students are enrolled in, academic programs, and other factors.

Service fees

The following fees are due for a student account beginning May 1, 2022-

• $10 refund for expired email money transfer (EMMT) and TouchNet GlobalPay (PADs) payments
• Wire charges are $25, and expedited wire charges are $50. (by request)
• NSF returned cheque fees of $25
• $15 for historical tax documentation and invoices in US dollars (by request)

Tuition and student ancillary fees

Tuition fees cover the costs of academic program delivery, as well as the financing of instructional and general operating costs at the university. The Tuition Fee Estimator at UWindsor displays approved fees for the current academic year. Students can find their account balance, including what they owe, charges, deposits, and anticipated aid, at any time on the UWinsite Student section under the Financial Account tile.

Ancillary fees are required regardless of delivery method. The university levies the student ancillary fees on services and facilities that are separate from academic programs, such as support services, athletics, unions, and so on.

To opt-out

All fees assessed to the student’s account are mandatory, with the exception of the drug and dental plans and the U-Pass, which they may decline if they qualify. Students can opt out if they have alternative coverage through UWSA, OPUS, or GSS. The University collaborates with the Student Society and insurance carriers to confirm coverage and, if accepted, payment.

If students start the Fall semester, they can only opt out during the Fall Change-of-Coverage Period, which runs from August 3 to September 30, 2022.

If a new student joins the university at the beginning of the Winter semester, then they may opt-out during the Winter Change-of-Coverage period, which runs from January 3 to January 30, 2023.

The opt-out period for Winter 2023 will be available from January 1 to February 1, 2023.

Each term, before the final financial drop dates, a drug and dental opt-out is available.

U-Pass

For the Fall 2022 semester, all undergrad and full-time grad students have to pay the U-Pass fee (including the $5 administrative fee) for the year pass. Students can visit the UWSA Bus Pass page for more information.

Enrollment Options- Full-Time / Part-Time

Tuition fees only apply to registered classes. Classes on the waitlist or in the students’ shopping cart will not be charged until students receive registration confirmation.

If students enroll in at least four courses, the university will consider them full-time students and will be charged accordingly. Each additional course costs one incidental fee plus the student center operating fee. The Full-time University of Windsor Student Alliance (UWSA) fees are mandatory for all full-time students.

If a student takes no more than three courses at a time, then the university considers them a part-time student. Part-time Organization of Part-Time University Students (OPUS) fees are required for all part-time students.

You have to pay Graduate Student Society (GSS) fees if you are a graduate student.

For students in Co-op programs

Students are responsible for paying all co-op fees according to the schedule prescribed for their program once admitted to the co-op program. The University determines the co-op fee, which may increase each year. Cooperative fees are non-refundable. You have to pay fees for multiple semesters, including the summer, fall, and winter seasons. Co-op fees are due on the same day as term tuition.
