Founded in 1965, Algoma University is proud of its unique ways, and it is this drive that makes Algoma the right place for students and their future. The City of Brampton and Algoma University collaborate with other stakeholders to expand the post-secondary options for Brampton residents and the international community.
Algoma University proposes to expand its academic offerings in response to the City of Brampton’s growing needs by establishing a Centre for Social, Cultural, and Economic Innovation in downtown Brampton. Algoma University started offering programs, degrees, and certificates in Computer Science, Psychology, and Community Economic and Social Development in the Fall of 2020, in addition to its School of Business and Economics, with new programs to follow in 2023. Students at Algoma University’s Centre for Social, Cultural, and Economic Innovation get training to make significant contributions to the community of Brampton and beyond.
Campus
While campuses in Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins provide students with a truly northern experience, and the campus in Brampton provides students with an urban experience. Every campus, no matter where you study, provides students with the academic background and experience they need to succeed. There are numerous opportunities for personal development, both inside and outside of the classroom at Algoma.
Brampton campus
The campus of Algoma University is located in historic downtown Brampton. The downtown area is just a few steps away and is home to over 1500 businesses and services, as well as city and regional transit. Great restaurants, shops, arts, entertainment, parks, and culture are all available. Garden Square, located directly across the street from Algoma University’s Brampton campus, provides free entertainment for all ages throughout the year, including numerous events and festivals. This vibrant city hub hosts Culture Days, Winter Lights Weekend, the Festival of Liberty Diversity, and the World of Jazz Festival, to name a few events.
Sault Ste. Marie
Locals call Sault Ste. Marie ‘The Soo’ because it has all the amenities of a big city, such as shopping, entertainment, sports teams, festivals, and cultural activities, but without the hassle of traffic. This Canadian city, which shares a border with Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, is small enough to navigate on foot or by bike. It’s only a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute bike or bus ride from campus to downtown.
Timmins
Timmins is known as the city with a golden heart. The Timmins campus provides diploma-to-degree and university transfer students with opportunities to accelerate their careers. The blended-learning programming facility is situated on the Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology campus and is ideal for those who live and work in Northern Ontario.
