Professor Teuvo Kohonen, who pioneered research into self-organizing maps at Aalto University, is well-known in the field of physics. The Learning Vector Quantization algorithm, theories of distributed associative memory, and optimal associative mappings developed by Prof. Kohonen, the Learning Subspace Method, and new algorithms for symbol processing such as redundant hash addressing were all developed by him. Many books and more than 300 peer-reviewed papers were written by him.

Both Nobel laureate Artturi Virtanen and TkK’s first professor of chemistry, Gustaf Komppa, achieved the first commercially feasible full synthesis of camphor. As a result, the institution has one of Europe’s largest microscopy facilities and the largest cleanroom facility in Northern Europe.

There is a fee for non-EU/EEA citizens who wish to enroll in English-taught bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. For Ph.D. programs, there is no fee.

Depending on the degree, the fee of tuition might range from €12 000 to €15 000 every academic year.

What are the application deadlines?

Admissions are open in Aalto University’s two-year master’s programs once a year. The University application process for the autumn 2022 semester starts from 1 December to 3 January 2022.
