Professor Teuvo Kohonen, who pioneered research into self-organizing maps at Aalto University, is well-known in the field of physics. Both Nobel laureate Artturi Virtanen and TkK’s first professor of chemistry, Gustaf Komppa, achieved the first commercially feasible full synthesis of camphor. As a result, the institution has one of Europe’s largest microscopy facilities and the largest cleanroom facility in Northern Europe.
