To ensure the comprehensive development and practical exposure of undergraduate and graduate students, Fisher College mandates a rigorous internship program that requires students to complete 120 hours of hands-on experience in their respective fields of study. This internship is an integral part of the degree or course requirements and plays a valuable role in shaping students’ career trajectories.

Fisher college | Internship and co-op opportunities

Applying for jobs that would not only help you learn but also enjoy working is extremely important. Students should schedule their time in such a way that managing learning and interning at the same time is not stressful. The internships are part-time, for around 10 to 25 hours per week. This can be altered on the basis of the individual student’s requirements. Students should maintain a positive outlook when interning and dedicate themselves to learning more during this period.  

Day Program for students 

Bachelor students applying for Day Programs are expected to complete an internship period of 120 hours. This will give them at least three added credits at the end of the internship. They are required to choose a position that is related to their degree, others would not be considered for credit.

Requirements and steps for International students applying to this program 

Before applying for the program, the student must receive authorization from the Center of International Programs and Services (CIPS). After securing an approved internship the student has to apply and complete the Curricular Practical Training (CPT). CPT enables international students to receive temporary authorization for employment in Boston, which is necessary for graduation at Fisher’s College. 

Students are only allowed to undertake jobs or internships related to their field of study. Most students who move to the United States to study are given F1 status through college which applies to the CPT authorization. They will also receive a college I-20 form. 

CPT enables international students, of F1 status, to gain work experience which will prepare them for the internship period. These students will receive their academic credits before the program is completed. 

Requirements for being eligible for CPT

• Must have studied in an academic institution for a whole year.
• Must be enrolled in a credit-bearing college-level course. Those who have enrolled in Development and ESL courses cannot apply for CPT. 
• Have a valid F1 status before their degree program completion. 
• Proof of a degree-related internship offer before applying. 
• Documents you need to submit-

1. Up-to-date I-20 form
2. Original Passport
3. Copy of I-94 form from their most recent entry in the US.

CPT authorization is valid for the period of internship provided on the I-20 form. If students change their workplace they would need to apply for CPT authorization again. You can apply for an extension if needed. 

The internship offer has to be approved by your professor or faculty instructor. Most of the internships at Fisher College do not provide remuneration for your work. If you apply to a place that offers you paid internships, you will need to follow the U.S Federal and Massachusetts State tax regulations imposed. It is essential to discuss this with the CIPS advisor before the documents are prepared.
