Oxford Brookes University – The legacy of quality learning

The Oxford School of Art, established in 1865 and initially operating out of a single room within the Taylor Institution, an academic library, is where Oxford Brookes University’s beginnings may be. After operating for a while as Oxford Polytechnic, it was granted university status in 1992 and was given the name John Henry Brookes in honor of its first Principal.

Campus and faculties

Four campuses make up the university, three near or close to Oxford. A fourth location that provides continuing education, operating department practice and adult nursing programs is located in the town of Swindon, about 30 miles north of Oxford.

Business, humanities, social sciences, health and life sciences, technology, design, and environment are among its four faculties (within which its School of Architecture is one of the largest in Britain).

Specialist facilities include purpose-built, industry-level engineering workshops and high-spec computing and digital media facilities. For healthcare students, there are specialist clinical simulation suites. Completely refurbished facilities for Life Sciences include a sizable new teaching lab, ideal for cross-discipline working, new student-orientation spaces, and the Sinclair Annex, home to the Bioimaging Centre.

Accommodation

Oxford Brookes University provides various housing options, including studio apartments in student residence halls and self-catered single-study bedrooms. You will be assured a room in one of your five hall selections if you formally commit to Oxford Brookes by the deadline.

IT Facilities

The IT facilities include more than 1,000 open-access PCs, including more than 350 in the Headington library. Oxford Brookes’ libraries also offer free, self-service laptop lending.
