About the Nanyang Technological University
Nanyang Technological University of Singapore (NTU), a relatively new institute came into existence in 1991 as a teaching university. The university is now a research-intensive global university that provides undergraduate and postgraduate education. NTU became autonomous in 2006 and is one of Singapore’s two largest public universities. Nanyang Technological University | A brief overview
Founded in 1955, Nanyang Technological University’s original name was Nanyang Technological Institute. It’s the first and only Chinese university established outside of China and Taiwan. On January 16, 1953, Mr. Tan Lark Sye proposed the idea of establishing a Chinese university and made a personal donation of S$5 million.
On March 23, 1953, Hokkien Huay Kuan donated 523 acres of land to the institution. Mr. Tan’s request for the construction of a Chinese university was met with enthusiasm throughout Southeast Asia. Since 2005, the university has accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in both Business and Accounting. The American Association for the Advancement of Science and Business (AAASB) is a hallmark of management education. It ensures quality and encourages excellence and continuous progress in undergraduate and graduate business and accounting education. In the Young University Rankings released by Times Higher Education in 2022, the University ranks #30 globally.
NTU’s main campus is the largest university campus in Singapore, spanning 200
hectares (490 acres). The main campus grounds are located at 50 Nanyang Avenue in the western section of Singapore. It also has campuses in Singapore’s healthcare and start-up zones, Novena and one-north, respectively.
The NTU Smart Campus is a living demonstration of future technology, demonstrating how innovative digital and tech-enabled solutions support better learning and living experiences, new knowledge discovery, and resource sustainability.
