Australian National University | A brief overview

In 1946, the Australian National University came into existence. The main Acton campus of the public institution is in Canberra, Australia’s capital city. Mount Stromlo Observatory and Siding Spring Observatory, both affiliated with the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, are two other university campuses.

Tuition varies by subject and is normally higher for international students. Undergraduate and graduate students can live on campus. Recently more than 20% of the university’s student body lived on campus. First-year undergraduate students from outside the Canberra region are guaranteed a year of housing.

Arts and social sciences, Asia and the Pacific, business and economics, engineering and computer science, law, medicine, biology, environment, and physical and mathematical sciences are the university’s nine colleges. The university’s academic calendar is semester-based, and the language of instruction is English. The ANU has exchange agreements with over 150 universities in over 30 countries, including the University of Montreal in Canada and the Technical University of Munich in Germany.

Just like other Australian universities, undergraduate students can enroll in degree programs that lead to an honors degree, a more advanced credential than a bachelor’s degree. Honors degree programs place a strong emphasis on research. The John Curtin School of Medical Research, the Climate Change Institute, and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health are just a few of the Australian National University’s many research facilities.
