Kingston Maurward College | A legacy of learning

Kingston Maurward College is a higher education organization with an emphasis on instruction and training for land-based industries. It offers full-time, part-time, apprenticeships, and degree-level courses (Higher Education) in many different disciplines, such as agriculture, blacksmithing, animal science and welfare, business and professional, countryside and environment management, equine studies, floristry, foundation learning, horticulture, arboriculture, construction, outdoor adventure, public services, military readiness, and sport and fitness.

Kingston Maurward College | History

Since the late 14th century, Kingston has had a manor house. It was later replaced in the late 16th century with a manor house that is still standing today. The current palace was constructed between 1717 and 1720 on the estate given to him by his second wife Lora daughter of Audley Grey by George Pitt (1663-1735) of Stratfield Saye House, a cousin of William Pitt the Elder. The home was originally made of red brick, but Pitt covered it in Portland limestone in response to King George III’s disparaging remarks. The building features a core portion that projects outward and faces south. Similar in form, the north facade has a porch from the 20th century. Kingston Maurward College now occupies the most of the house, while some some of it is used for private functions.

In 2016, a pipe above the main hall of the house burst, flooding the interior. The professionals enlisted to evaluate the damage showed that the area had been redecorated with the intention of using white and stone to highlight the mouldings. The original state was restored as a result of the discovery.
