La Trobe’s Melbourne campus at Bundoora was officially opened in 1967 when the university began operations. Except for education, pharmacy, and dentistry, which are all based in Bendigo, the campus serves as the main base for all of La Trobe’s courses. Bundoora is the Southern Hemisphere’s largest university campus, spanning 235 hectares (580 acres) and including the adjacent Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary.
Bundoora has approximately 22,000 students and thus many facilities such as restaurants, bars, shops, banks, and an art gallery. The Borchardt Library, the campus’s main library, houses well over a million books.
It has regional campuses in three other Melbourne locations.
Yuncken Freeman of Melbourne designed the original main campus buildings in a utilitarian, Post-War International style. A series of raised walkways connect these structures. Menzies, Glenn, and Chisholm are the three on-campus residential colleges at La Trobe University. The newer north and south apartments, the self-contained Barnes way and Waterdale apartments, and the University lodge, which primarily serves postgraduate students, supplement these.
La Trobe University has a city campus on Collins Street in Melbourne’s central business district. Both domestic and international students can take postgraduate courses at the campus.

La Trobe Bendigo completed 118 years of tertiary education in the regional hub, which began in 1873 with the Bendigo School of Mines.
