Founded by the Society of Mary (Marianists) in 1850, UD is a top-tier research university known for its academics, research, and community involvement. Located on the banks of the Great Miami River in southwest Ohio, there are many fun activities to do on and around campus less than two miles from downtown Dayton.
The University of Dayton is a private Catholic institution in Ohio, about an hour north of Cincinnati and about an hour west of Columbus, the state capital. Its undergraduate enrollment was 8,637 in the fall of 2021, a suburban setting, and a campus size of 373 acres. Dayton follows a semester-based academic calendar. The University of Dayton offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and numerous graduate programs, including those in the schools of business administration, law, engineering, and education. Through liturgies, spiritual retreats, and special programs such as PORCH (People of Respect, Compassion, and Hope), the university, encourages its students to actively practice their faiths. Students in the PORCH program form small groups and meet once a week to pray.
The students can also participate in over 200 organizations as well as the campus radio and television stations. Students can also participate in recreational sports or try out for one of the many Dayton Flyers varsity teams, which compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. Chuck Noll, the Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who won four Super Bowls with the team, is a notable UD alumnus.
Dayton is a community of doers and to improve student success and increase affordability, it has eliminated fees and implemented a four-year tuition plan. The University of Dayton, founded on faith and dedicated to the common good, celebrates diversity and the dignity of all people.
