Western Sydney University is a high-level public university in the greater western Sydney area, Australia. The university emerged from the merger of two predecessor institutions, Nepean College of Advanced Education and Hawkesbury Agricultural College. This created a network of federal universities. On January 1, 1989, in consonance with the provisions of the state legislature, the Macarthur Higher Education Institute was also incorporated into the university. In 2001, the university was restructured as a single multi-campus university and received its current name in 2015.

1. Bachelor of Nursing 

Western Sydney University offers a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a 3-year study duration. This course trains graduates to apply for an Australia-wide enrollment career as a professional generalist registered nurse. 

Using a primary health care framework, students study the application of the physical and behavioural sciences to nursing, principles and application of research as well as evidence-based practice in nursing. The university employs clinical practice simulations on campus to help students develop relevant skills to care for individuals, families, and groups of diverse origins.

Prospective students should note that full disclosure of disability or misconduct issues is a disclosure requirement when applying for registered nurse registration. A registration standard for English proficiency is also mandatory for all who apply for this course.

2. Bachelor of Health Science 

This course gives a broad detailed introduction to health sciences with opportunities to specialize in one or two of the following areas: health promotion, health management, therapeutic recreation, public health. Students who choose two specializations indicate one area as their priority program and the second as their specialization. 

Key programs are the same as primary specialization at Western Sydney University. The dual majors, however, aim to improve student experience and employability. Public Health is the only key program that is entirely online. Students choosing the key public health program and a major in any of the other 3 course specializations must attend on-campus classes for the second area of their study. 

Subsequently, students may also switch from this course to another within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Health. However, this process is competitive and subject to eligibility criteria and transfer places may be limited. 

3. Bachelor of Design (Visual Communications) 

The Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) gives you the basic skills and knowledge to communicate ideas and information through a variety of visual media. With a focus on studio practice, you can study areas such as image design, typography, layout design, branding, design history, research methods, and web-based design. 

From the second year, there is the possibility to experience live community or industrial projects and students can choose two practical specializations from the following pairs: motion design and data visualization, game and application design, illustration, and photography. 

Western Sydney University allows opting for electives outside of design, such as advertising and media production. Throughout the program, students take part in individual and team projects, developing their conceptual thinking, using a variety of traditional and new technologies, and expanding your creativity 

In the fourth year, students will take a position in the award-winning educational design studio, where they will gain experience in a professional learning environment and prepare to work in an exciting and developing industry. 

4. Master of psychotherapy and counseling 

The Master of Psychotherapy and Counseling is an interdisciplinary path to a career in helping people in need. Cultivating high levels of competence, sensitivity, self-awareness, and ethical behaviour is required by counsellors and psychotherapists. This course focuses on teaching theories and approaches and critically examines them with regard to their contribution to the current relational understanding and practice of counselling and psychotherapy.

This component introduces the students to the systematic examination of the consulting experience from different methodological perspectives. The Masters of psychotherapy and counselling is open to graduates from all disciplines who can demonstrate the personal and reflective qualities required for this demanding profession.
