Kings Medical College | A brief overview

Founded in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington, King’s College London is England’s third oldest university. It is a part of the top ten UK universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2023), and its alumni and current and former faculty include 12 Nobel Prize laureates. It has over 26,000 students and it spans five campuses in central London.

Tuition fees

The tuition fees for King’s College, London may increase in the subsequent years. You can refer to their terms and conditions for their fee structure for every semester. The tuition fee in the United Kingdom for the 2023-24 academic year is currently £9,250 per year. Students have to pay this fee according to the cap set by the UK government.

Full-time tuition fees for international students

The international students’ tuition fee for the academic year 2023-2024 is £45,420 per year. Please note that, in accordance with King’s terms and conditions, the international tuition fee is subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study.

All international undergraduate program applicants must pay a £5000 deposit against their first year’s tuition fee. This deposit is due when a student firmly accepts a conditional or unconditional offer to study at King’s, and the college will offer reimbursement by deducting it from their tuition fees when they start.

If a student chooses to study abroad at one of King’s partner universities, the host university will not charge them tuition (although some partners do charge a small administration fee for applying). King’s will continue to bill for a portion of tuition fees.

A student should also budget for travel, visas, lodging, and food, as well as any vaccinations or immunizations required by the country to which they are traveling.

Additional costs

In addition to tuition, students should make a budget for the following expenses-

Clothing

Students will need to purchase a white coat from any retailer for laboratory work. The cost was £15.00.

Conferences related to the course

Conferences are optional. If a student attends a conference, they must pay for all associated costs, such as lodging, transportation, food and beverages, and appropriate attire. If the conference requires international travel, you will need to budget for travel insurance as well as, if necessary, passport renewal and visas.

Certificates/clearance for Disclosure and Barring Service

Students must pay for an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance check. This is a part of the course registration fee (it was £50 in July 2018 and is subject to change from time to time).

Electives

Students are responsible for any accommodations needed as part of their the location where they choose to study. If you choose to do your elective outside of the UK, you will need to pay for travel insurance and medical insurance, as well as passport renewal and visas.

Equipment

Computer workstations are available on all King’s campuses. Students may want to purchase their own desktop/laptop/tablet computer to help them with their studies (optional). For medical equipment and materials for Stage 2 and beyond, students will need to purchase a stethoscope of any make/model from any source. The college approves the calculators for students. 

Health checks/immunizations/vaccinations

Students are responsible for any immunization/vaccination costs incurred to ensure that they have a complete vaccination history prior to beginning the course. Applicants who have an academic offer of study will receive additional information on necessary immunizations/vaccinations. If a student chooses to complete their elective outside of the UK, they will be responsible for any vaccination or health check costs.

Insurance and travel

If you choose to study for your elective outside of the UK, you must pay for medical insurance. Students must also pay for their own transportation to and from clinical placements.
