Assumption College is an Autonomous Women’s College affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, and is a Christian minority institution. The Archdiocese of Changanassery manages the college and is recognized by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12B.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized Assumption College’s excellence through the grant of autonomy, and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) re-accredited the college at the ‘A’ Level in the third cycle. This college is ISO 9001-2015 certified.

Assumption ranks among the top 100 colleges in India in the NIRF Ranking 2017 and is now ranked 29th nationally, and 11th in the state among private autonomous colleges in the Education World India Higher Education Rankings 2021-22.

Founded in 1950, the college now has over 2500 students enrolled in 19 Undergraduate, 9 Postgraduate, and 2 Ph.D. programs. There are also Career Oriented Add-on Courses, ACSAD Certificate Courses, Enrichment Modules, and Social Outreach Programs to help students become globally competent.

College facilities

Library

The institute has a library that houses a large collection of books, periodicals, journals, CDs, non-book materials, and magazines. A fully automated library with INFLIBNET’s ‘SOUL’ software and ‘CAMPUS NET’ serves students and faculty, the bar code system monitors book issuing and return.

Hostel

Students can stay in hostels such as Assumption Hostel, Vimala Hostel, St. Alphonsa Hostel, and others. These hostels house approximately 900 students. All hostels are well-built, and clean, and serve food as well. The hostels have 24-hour electricity and water supply.

Residential students receive special training to promote friendship, geniality, respect, and tolerance, and to develop their talents to their full potential to face life’s difficult challenges.

Laboratories and computer centers

The Institute’s sophisticated laboratories have modern devices to assist students in learning how to implement subjects taught during the course. Laboratory assistants maintain and monitor laboratories.

Auditorium

Built in 1962, the college auditorium has a seating capacity of 1000 people and is used for cultural events and functions. The well-appointed seminar hall known as Mar Kurialassery Hall incorporates cutting-edge audio-visual technology. Brainstorming sessions on new technological trends happen in the hall.

Canteen

The college canteen provides students with high-quality food at a reasonable price.

Students and faculty frequently stop by the cafeteria after each class for a quick snack.

Sports facility

The college’s indoor and outdoor sports facilities aid students’ mental and physical development for a healthy future. Students regularly practice on the institute’s football fields, basketball courts, and badminton courts.
