Ulster University | A brief overview

Ulster University is a large, diverse, and modern institution with over 25,000 students and 3,000 staff. The University had ambitious development plans, most notably the expansion of the Belfast city campus opened in 2018. It houses students and staff in Belfast and Jordanstown in a stunning 21st-century building. The new, expanded Belfast campus will transform higher education in the city, creating dynamic teaching and learning environments with state-of-the-art facilities that align with Belfast’s vision as a ‘Smart City.’ This campus will be a world-class research and innovation center, enabling creative and technological excellence. With four campuses across Northern Ireland, Ulster University deeply embeds itself in every aspect of living and working in the region.

Campus

Ulster University has campuses in Belfast, Coleraine, Jordanstown, Magee, London, Birmingham, and Qatar. Each campus has advanced teaching, research, accommodation, and support facilities. The Belfast campus regularly hosts art exhibitions and fashion shows.

It also houses ‘The Academy’, a restaurant that offers catering and food preparation classes to students.

The Coleraine campus, located on the banks of the river Bann, focuses on subjects such as biomedical sciences, psychology, history, geography, environmental science, English, and teacher education, among others.

Jordanstown is the university’s largest campus, covering 114 acres and housing several institutes and stores. On-site facilities at the Magee campus in Derry include libraries, multi-faith rooms, medical centers, computer labs, printing, and laptop rental. CUC (City University College) and Ulster University have collaborated to provide undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the Qatar campus.

Ulster University courses are available globally through an online distance-learning provider. Through its previous ‘Campus One’ program, the university was among the first to offer degree-level programs, and it was a pioneer in the introduction of online degree-level courses in Biomedical Sciences. The European Commission later chose the university to deliver the world’s first Higher Educational Program in Hydrogen Safety Engineering.

Courses

Ulster University offers over 800 educational programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in the arts, engineering, business, management, health and life sciences, social sciences, and information technology. In addition, the institution offers a variety of short courses and CPD programs. The university provides 78 e-learning programs to allow working professionals to learn on their own time. Four faculties offer these courses, each of which houses several schools focusing on various subject areas. Ulster University’s undergraduate fees for 2023-24 are £11,850, while postgraduate fees range from £13,050 to £19,850.
