St. Francis College | A college that drives dreams
St. Francis College for Women is a Catholic Minority Institution founded in 1959 for women’s education by the Sisters of Charity of Sts. Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa. Jesus Christ serves as the college’s norm, protector, and guide, his teachings are the inspiration for this college.
St. Francis College is self-governing and affiliated with Osmania University. In 1964, the college was recognized under Section 2(f) 12B of the University Grants Commission, and on May 9, 1988, it was granted Autonomy Status by letter No. F. 24-7/87 (NFE).
St. Francis College, one of the twin cities’ first autonomous colleges affiliated with Osmania University, has been re-accredited by NAAC with a 3.46 CGPA on a scale of 4 in the third cycle.
The college won the award College with Potential for Excellence by the UGC in 2004. As a minority institution, it reserves its inherent and constitutional right to management and administration. It is primarily for Catholics, but due to its concern for the socially and economically disadvantaged, it will accept students from other parts of society, including students from the SC/ST/BC categories, to the greatest extent possible.
With various academic programs intertwined with co-curricular activities, civic and social responsibility initiatives, cultural and aesthetic promotion, physical fitness, and value education, the College continues to serve the cause of women’s education.
The college curriculum is based on the Choice-Based Credit System advocated by the UGC.
St. Francis College | History
In 1832, inspired by the life of Jesus Christ, Bartolomea Capitanio, a young, dynamic, and gifted lady of twenty-six, founded the Sisters of Charity congregation in Italy.
Bartolomea founded the Mission of Charity by establishing schools, hospitals, and youth clubs, which carried on after her death by her companion Vincenza Gerosa.
Bartolomea’s charitable vision has inspired countless young ladies worldwide to live lives of service.
The Sisters of Charity arrived in India in 1860 to provide loving service to this country’s people in various roles. The Sisters of Charity play an important role in educating young girls by instilling in them the values of justice, truth, and the dignity of life in society.
St. Francis College for Women, inspired by these ideals, has as its vision the education of women for their holistic development. The college seeks to assist students in becoming intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed, and spiritually inspired Indian women.
