The University of New Haven is a private, nonsectarian, independent university that has the recognition for academic excellence by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
Since 1948, the University has been accredited by the New England Commission on Higher Education and has the Connecticut General Assembly charter. Established in 1920, the University of New Haven is not a non-profit university. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 5,023 (fall 2021), a suburban setting, and an 82-acre campus.
The academic calendar is semester-based. The University of New Haven has a #58 rank in Regional Universities North in the Best Colleges 2022-2023 edition. Total tuition and fees are up to $44,184.
The university, often abbreviated as UNH, offers nearly 100 undergraduate majors and approximately 30 master’s programs, including those in public affairs. Each UNH student has to complete one form of experiential learning, such as an internship, a faculty-mentored research project, a study abroad experience, or an academic service-learning project in the community to graduate. UNH also provides services to help freshmen transition from high school and sophomores begin to consider their career options.

UNH students can participate in over 100 campus organizations, write for The Charger Bulletin student newspaper, or play on one of the many recreational sports teams for extracurricular activities. There are approximately 15 New Haven Chargers varsity sports teams that compete in the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 Conference for students who want to make a career in athletics.
Campus
The University of New Haven’s main campus is situated on 82 acres of land in West Haven, Connecticut. The campus is close to both New York City and Boston.
The university has satellite campuses in Orange, Connecticut, and Prato, Italy, in addition to the main campus. The Pompea College of Business is located on the Orange campus of the University of New Haven. This campus, surrounded by more than 300 acres of beautifully preserved forest land, provides study spaces and modern classrooms in a natural setting. The university’s Tuscany campus offers students an exceptional opportunity to immerse themselves in Italian culture and language.
The University of New Haven currently has 48 campus buildings, including the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science and the Bergami Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation, which is the newest building.

Courses
When it comes to courses, the university offers bachelor’s and associate degrees in 82 undergraduate majors, master’s degrees in 72 graduate areas of study, and a doctorate in criminal justice. In 2020-21, the University of New Haven conferred 1,060 undergraduate and 990 graduate degrees.
