Main campus
The main university campus encompasses 412 hectares (1,017 acres), which includes the 165-hectare (408-acre) University of Guelph Arboretum, as well as a 12-hectare (30-acre) research park.
The President’s House and Raithby House, built with local limestone, are among the earliest examples of campus architecture dating back to the founding of the Ontario Agricultural College. The campus also has several notable mid-century modernist buildings, mainly in the Brutalist style, built as part of the school’s expansion plan in the 1960s.
Complexes designed by architect Josep Lluis Sert, such as the MacKinnon Arts Building and the McLaughlin Library, serve as important meeting places. The campus is densely forested, with many trees lining the main walkways, which are paved with red clay brick. An arboretum is also located on the campus.
The University of Guelph Campus Community Police, First Response Team, and Fire Safety officers provide campus security.
Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) campuses
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs ran the Ontario Agricultural College’s network of campuses and research stations across the province. Courses were once offered in English in Guelph, Kemptville, and Ridgetown, as well as French at the Campus d’Alfred near Ottawa. From 1889 to 1961, this college published the OAC Review, a student-run magazine with topics ranging from political and social events to photographs from around campus.
