Western New England University was established in 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The University was founded as the Springfield Division of Northeastern College, known as Springfield-Northeastern, to provide part-time educational options for adult law, business, and accounting students.

An autonomous authorization was given to Western New England University to issue and confer the Bachelor of Business Administration degrees, and the Bachelor of Laws was secured in 1951. Northeastern University’s Springfield Division was renamed Western New England College. The current Wilbraham Road location was bought in 1956, and the first building, today’s Emerson Hall, opened in 1959.

Western New England College became Western New England University on July 1, 2011, sixty years later. The promotion to the university level better represents their expansion, diversity, increased graduate options, and all-encompassing character. 1. Please introduce yourself. 

I am Janose Osedeme, and I am currently pursuing my Engineering Management doctoral degree from Western New England University. 

2. What made you choose Western New England University?

I specifically chose to study at Western New England University because of the Engineering Management doctoral program. Most colleges do not offer this program, but WNE provides this course and other benefits like scholarships. I really liked the course structure and was impressed with the amenities that were provided to students.

3. Which class do you belong to?

I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Engineering Management. 

4. Why should one choose to study at Western New England University?

WNE’s Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Law provide over 90 undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs. The university is well-known for its outstanding geographical location, small class sizes, personalized attention, and dedication to educating students for successful careers.

With over 70 clubs and organizations to select from, WNE offers diverse activities. Western New England University provides a home for you, from Hackerspace to the Entrepreneurship Club, the Society for Women Engineers, to the Management Association.

5. What amenities are offered to students at Western New England University?

Because your first year at WNE is about introducing you to their community, you will share a typical room in their campus Quad. You can live in suites your sophomore year to broaden your relationships. You will spend your junior and senior years in flats and townhouses, learning to cook and run home as you prepare for life beyond Western New England University.

WNE is a kind and inviting community that cares about the success of foreign students. Their International Admissions counselors collaborate closely with their Office of International Student and Scholar Services on immigration issues as well as academic, social, economical, and personal problems pertinent to everyday living in the United States.

6. How is student life at Western New England University?

WNE is now more than ever the perfect size—for you. When you enroll at Western New England University, you will not be lost in a big lecture hall or an impersonal online course; instead, you will be their top focus. 7. How’s the cultural life at college?

What is a good indicator of a welcoming campus? It all comes down to the doors. Seriously. When taking a campus tour, pay attention to the present students as well as your pleasant tour guide. “Everyone here holds doors open for you,” tourists commonly observe. What’s the big deal about that? 

Because this tiny act exemplifies the students, instructors, and staff that are really welcome and compassionate to both guests and fellow community members, while they may take a moment to hold a door open for you (even if they are late), they also open doors to comprehension, networking, foreign travel, graduate prospects, and first employment.

Western New England University has over 50 academic majors and 30 minor courses from which you can choose. You can also join their exploratory program, which will help you choose your course through a series of hands-on projects; internships and experiential learning, faculty-led study abroad; and research and presentation. 

WNE also offers a range of master’s, doctoral, and combined degree programs for students seeking to advance their careers. You can combine your interests in business, engineering, law, or pharmacy by pursuing two degrees through the combined degree programs. 

9. What are the top three things you like about Western New England University?

The first thing I like about WNE is the D’Amour Library and Legal Library (the sole law library in western Massachusetts).  The library has been remodeled with more open workstations to encourage collaborative study and research, as well as conference rooms and computer laboratories. The second thing I like is the new University Commons that serves as a dining and social hub for residential and commuter students. Last but not least, the University Commons contains a Starbucks® Café, pop-up food choices, a restaurant, a convenience shop, a sushi bar, a two-story residential dining hall, conference spaces, and an outdoor terrace.
